Inspirado por Río // Inspirated for Rio

Hace poco que ví Río, una película de animación preciosa, muy colorista, alegre y musical, que me inspiró para hacer algunos fanarts de sus personajes. El primero es Rafael, el Tucán, coloreado con mis lápices Derwent Artists; el segundo es un sketch de Nico, el canario; el tercero es un boceto de Blu, el guacamayo protagonista, al que decidí dar color digitalmente. ¡Espero que os guste!

Not long ago I saw Rio, a beautiful animated movie, so colour, lively and musical that inspired me for drawing some fanarts of its characters. The first is Rafael, the toucan, coloured with my Derwent Artists colour pencils; the second is a sketch of Nico the canary bird; The third is a sketch of Blu, the main character, a macaw, that I decided to colour digitally. I hope you like them!

¿Te tomas una cerveza conmigo?

Una ilustración que llevaba tiempo rondando por mi mente, hasta que mis manos le dieron forma. Al final decidí de nuevo darles color con mis Derwent Artists y, de paso, experimentar un poco con las luces. Pues nada, estas invitado a tomarte una cerveza con él mientras metes los pies en el agua... con el calor que esta empezando a hacer, apetece bastante.

An illustration that was in mind mind for a time until my hands decided to give it form. Finally I decided to colour them with my Derwent Artists and, also, to experiment a bit with the lights. Well, you're invited to have a beer with him whereas you put your feet into the water... with the warm weather that we're having lately, it's a quite attractive idea.

Dibujillos de febrero

La verdad que durante este mes de febrero el trabajo me ha tenido muy atareado, pero no he perdido la ocasión de dibujar en mis ratos libres. Además, me compré una nueva herramienta de trabajo: Una caja de lápices de la marca Derwent, de la serie Artists. Aquí podeis ver algunas de las cosas que hice este mes de febrero, dos de ellas coloreadas con mis derwent.

Certainly during this month of february my job has occuped me too much, but I haven't lost the chance to draw in my free time. Also, I've bought a new tool for my works: a box of colour pencils of the brand Derwent, series Artists. Here you can see some of the things that I've drawn during february, two of them coloured with my Derwent.

Pececito en gouache

¿Os podeis creer que jamás he pintado con témperas? Sí, sí, esos botecitos que nos hacen comprarnos de críos para hacer pastiches extraños en clase de plástica. Pues bien, he decidido rescatar también esta técnica y ponerla a prueba... y ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora. Para empezar, decidí retratar un hermoso pez de la especie Zanclus cornutus , conocido también como "Ídolo moro". Bien, el primer día comencé a aplicarlo, unas veces como si fueran mis acostumbradas acuarelas, y otras veces como si fuera acrílico... ¡y para mi desesperación, los colores se guarreaban mucho entre ellos y lograr el efecto que deseaba era muy difícil! Una chica de clase me llegó a decir: El gouache no es ni acuarela ni acrílico... pero tiene lo peor de cada una. El profesor, Antonio Zambrana, no obstante, me decía que a él el gouache le gustaba mucho como técnica, más, de hecho, que los mismos acrílicos. Otros compañeros, como Fran y Loli, me decían: no dejes el cuadro, trata de arreglarlo. Así, a la semana, me armé de paciencia, y, con el conocimiento adquirido de cómo actuaba el gouache, me puse a tratar de remendar toda mancha, fallo y pincelada mal dada, y al final pude lograr esta ilustración. No será un Velázquez... ¡pero es mi primer gouache! (O témpera XD)



Can you believe that I've never painted with gouache before? yeah, those cute bottles of paint that we buy in the school to do strange experiments in art classes.Well, I've decided to rescue this technique and try it too... and has been a very nice experience. To start, I decided to paint a fish from the species Zanclus cornutus, also known as "moorish idol". Well, the first day I started to paint it sometimes using them like watercolour, sometimes like acrylic, and for my desesperation, the colours were becoming dirty easily and was hard to get the results that I wanted! A girl from my class said to me: It's not acrylic or watercolour, but it has the worse things of they two. The teacher, Antonio Zambrana, said me in the other hand that he loves this technique, even more than acrylics. Other pals, like Fran and Loli, told me that I shouldn't leave the paint, and follow it, trying to fix all the mistakes. Then, the next week and with the knowledges of how acts the gouache, I fixed all stain, fail and bad trace, and finally I could get this illustration. It's not a Velázquez but... it's my first gouache painting!

Lápices de colores!

Entrañables compañeros de cuando éramos niños... cúantos los hemos dejado atrás en pos de técnicas más "adultas" y "serias", como el óleo, el gouache, la acuarela, el acrílico... ¡reivindico aquí los lápices de color como técnica igualmente válida para ilustrar!

De hecho, ayer hice esta ilustración tras años sin probar a usar lápices de color... tengo que pillarme una caja de polícromos para lograr mejores resultados, pero aún así, sus suaves colores, su trazo... es algo muy hermoso.



Dear friends of our childhood... how many of us left the colour pencils behind to use more "adult" and "serious" techniques, like oil, gouache, watercolour, acrylic... I vindicate here the colour pencils like a good technique to illustrate!

Yesterday i did this illustration after of years without use colour pencils... and I wanna buy a box of polichromes to get better results, but even with this pencils, the soft tones, the lines... is something beautiful.

Me sumo al hartismo

Generalmente en este blog sólo subo las obras, ilustraciones y cómics que voy haciendo, pero hoy, en esta entrada, no voy a subir imagen alguna, sino un manifiesto. Sí, hace unos minutos leía embelesado, en el blog de mi amigo Alfredo, el manifiesto hartista. Leedlo. Es largo, pero subrayo todo lo que dice, porque casa con mi modo de pensar sobre el arte. De hecho, en mi experiencia Erasmus, estuve en una facultad llena de pretenciosos preocupados sólo por el concepto, la idea... y sin idea alguna de dar un palo al agua, de coger un lápiz, de mancharse de pintura... En fin, sin más, os invito a leerlo. Es largo, pero vale la pena:

Modelo

Últimamente me cuelo (con permiso del gran profesor Antonio Zambrana) en las clases de pintura de 5º. Lo confieso, soy un adicto de Bellas Artes. Amo estar en esa facultad y pasear por sus pasillos como si de mi propia casa (la siento así) se tratara, y he descubierto que cuanto más aprendo sobre el arte, más y más amo el mismo arte en sí. Aquí os cuelgo una rápida acuarela que hice en mi última clase, hace varias horas.

Lately I go (with permission of the great teacher Antonio Zambrana) to the painting class of the 5th course. I confess it, I'm a Fine Arts addicted. I love to be in that Faculty and walk in its corridors like if I was in my own home (I feel it like that), and I've discovered that the more I learn about art, the most I love it. Here I put you a quick watercolour that I did in my last class, several hours ago.

Regreso a casa

Mezclando un poco de los ratones de Narnia con una pizca de los del cómic Mouse Guard, hice esta ilustración. Este ratón regresa a su reino tras largas aventuras en el extranjero que lo han mantenido lejos de su hogar.

Mixing a bit of the mice of Narnia with a little bit of de mice of the comic "Mouse Guard", I did this illustration. This mouse returns to his kingdom after long adventures in foreigh lands that kept him far away of home.

El otro día en clases de pintura decidí transformar al modelo en uno de los personajes del cómic "Runaways", Chase Stein. Este es el resultado de la acuarela que realicé.

The last day, in picture classes, I decided to transform the model into a character from the comic "Runaways", Chase Stein. This is the final result of that watercolour.
